Gotrek Gurnisson
Gotrek Gurnisson is a melee promise: Zangrom-Thaz swings constantly, and charging into the horde makes it faster. He is also part of the follower economy, because other champions can call him to their side by evolving a Fyrestorm Greataxe. The launch build is not public, so this dossier keeps the confirmed axe behaviour separate from the guesswork.

Confirmed axe behaviour
Auroch’s Zangrom-Thaz post describes the Fyrestorm Greataxe as a brutal arc that swings around the player, changes direction with movement and slows its damage if the player stands idle. Evolving it calls Gotrek Gurnisson to your side and changes the weapon into Zangrom-Thaz, which swings constantly and speeds up when you charge into enemies.
That is a movement-dependent melee kit with a clear thesis: standing still is a damage loss. The exact passive required for the evolution has not been announced. The Steam page and the squad feature both confirm that playing as Gotrek does not spawn a clone of himself when the evolution occurs.
- Confirmed signature weapon: Zangrom-Thaz.
- Confirmed behaviour: constant swings; accelerates when charging into enemies.
- Confirmed follower interaction: evolving the Fyrestorm Greataxe can recruit Gotrek.
- Demo status: not in the October demo; full-game unlock not announced.
How to play the axe
Move into the horde, not around it. The axe’s damage increases when you take the fight to the enemy, so the usual survivor instinct to orbit at maximum range may leave value on the table. Cut through the edge of a pack, then turn so the return swing meets the followers.
Keep an eye on the escape lane. Charging in is only safe while the axe is clearing a path; if the pack closes behind you, the same aggression becomes a trap. Use the rhythm of the swings to time your turns rather than holding a straight line through the centre.
- Do not stand idle; the Fyrestorm archetype rewards movement.
- Charge through the edge, not the deepest part of the pack, until the exit is clear.
- Treat the follower version differently from playing Gotrek: no clone appears.
The Realmslayer as a follower
For other champions, the Fyrestorm Greataxe line is a way to add a melee god without giving up a weapon slot to a passive body. Gotrek attacks on your behalf and cannot take damage. That makes him attractive on paper for any build that can afford the axe and its unknown passive.
The catch is that the prerequisite is unpublished and the launch behaviour may differ from the announcement. Treat Gotrek as a target to test, not a guaranteed slot. If the full-game recipe is discoverable, the squad system guide explains how followers fit into the wider keyword economy.
Evidence level: axe behaviour and follower interaction are official. The required passive and launch unlock are not announced.
What to test at launch
First, confirm whether the Fyrestorm Greataxe is available to multiple champions or only a specific one. Second, find the required passive; the announcement deliberately withheld it. Third, test whether Gotrek’s follower version inherits the same charge-speed behaviour as the playable version.
Until those answers exist, a Gotrek plan should keep a reliable area weapon and a defensive layer around the axe. The fantasy is a permanent whirlwind; the practical question is whether the rest of the build survives long enough for the whirlwind to start.
Pre-launch note. This dossier is based on official reveals and the October 2026 demo. Unlock routes, exact damage values and final balance may change before 10 November 2026. Check the update log for newer information.
