Field notes / editorial ranking
Demo tier list
A Warhammer Survivors tier list is only useful if it explains the decision. This ranking rewards consistency, ease of use, area coverage and a clear evolution route — not theoretical damage nobody can verify before launch.

The October demo does not have a solved meta. It has six champions, a small weapon pool and one very clear lesson: finishing a build beats collecting ideas. This list is a snapshot of that build, not a prediction of the 40+ champion launch roster.
How to read the ranking
S means a pick that performs without a fragile setup and teaches the game well. A means a strong tool with a condition: a positioning requirement, a slower start or an evolution that needs testing.B is not “bad”; it is a pick that asks for more from the player or has a less proven ceiling in the current build.
The ranking weighs four things: survival consistency, ease of use, area coverage and the clarity of the evolution route. It does not use hidden damage values, because Auroch has not published them. That is also why a launch-day tier list with exact percentage scores should be read as entertainment rather than evidence.
Character tier list
Best in the demo
The Chainsword needs no setup, hits multiple enemies and teaches the core loop without a fragile gimmick. The cleanest first-run champion in the demo.
Whirling axes provide constant area coverage, and the Sabaton pairing gives the demo its most direct evolution goal. Strong when you keep moving.
Strong, with a condition
The Lasgun’s extra Cadian squadmates scale the firing line and feed the Castellan at launch. Less immediately explosive than Caedo, but excellent long-term value.
Hooks create space and simplify rescue objectives. The damage ceiling is less obvious than Neave’s, but control is the most transferable skill in the genre.
Extra movement and grenade area damage make him a strong kiting champion. The grenade rhythm takes more adjustment than a straightforward melee arc.
Usable / learning pick
Higher starting health is a real safety net, but the Brazier Staff wants medium range and can feel slower to clear with than the axe starters. Good for learning, not the fastest ceiling.
Why Caedo and Neave lead: both have a complete damage pattern from the first minute and a documented or strongly reported evolution path. Kozlowski’s value is lower in a short demo but higher in the launch meta if the Castellan and follower system scale as described. Lyssa’s control is excellent, but she needs a second area source to keep the screen clear.
Weapon tier list
Best in the demo
Immediate, forgiving and effective in the densest early waves. The reported evolution gives it a clear upgrade path without demanding a fragile setup.
Persistent whirling coverage and the best documented evolution in the demo. Pair with Sabaton and keep the arc moving.
Strong, with a condition
Not a screen-clearer on its own, but each level adds Cadian fire and opens the Kozlowski/Castellan squad line. Value rises with the meta layer.
Hooks restrain dangerous targets and rescue objectives become safer. Damage is less constant than an axe, so pair it with a reliable area weapon.
Good coverage and a high-health wielder, but the medium-range rhythm is less forgiving than pure melee. Solid, not spectacular.
Usable / learning pick
Strong against a committed pack and excellent with Catachan’s speed. The delay and throw rhythm make it less consistent than a constant melee arc.
Oiled is a powerful multiplier for fire builds, but it needs a second weapon to convert the setup into damage. High ceiling, conditional floor.
The Chainsword and Tempest Axes define the demo’s easiest damage loops. The Lasgun is the best long-term investment because its squad scaling feeds a follower system, while Rope and Grapnel earns its A-tier spot through control rather than raw damage. Nuln Oil is the highest-ceiling B: Oiled is strong, but it needs a fire weapon to become a build.
Launch watchlist: named but unranked
Morvenn Vahl, Gotrek Gurnisson, Marneus Calgar, the Castellan, Bastian Carthalos, Lorai, Sharynn Azurwrath, Brother Luca, Commissar Yarrick, Knight-Commander Pask and Chaplain Fo’Baran are not ranked here. We know too little about their launch weapons, passives or unlock costs to place them honestly. The character archive records what is confirmed.
Three names are worth flagging for launch experiments:
- Morvenn Vahl has a confirmed miracle mechanic and missile evolution, but no demo data.
- The Castellan turns followers into damage, which could make Kozlowski’s Lasgun line a top-tier engine.
- Gotrek Gurnisson is both a playable axe and a follower reward for another champion, with an unrevealed passive.
Method and limits
This is an editorial demo ranking checked on 1 November 2026, not an official tier list. Scores weigh survival consistency, ease of use, area coverage and the clarity of each evolution route. Full launch balance, unlocks and unseen champions can change every placement.
Use the ranking with the build routes and the evolution finder. If you are new, read the beginner guide before chasing an S-tier pick; the safest champion in a tier list is still a bad choice if the player does not understand the horde.
