Whirlwind Battery
The Whirlwind Battery is a 40K area bombardment weapon with an officially confirmed evolution, Orbital Bombardment. The interesting gap is the companion: the October demo report points to Liquid Green Stuff, but Auroch has not confirmed it.

Confirmed behaviour
Auroch’s April reveal names the Whirlwind Battery and its evolution, Orbital Bombardment, which brings down barrages of voidship fire from above. IGN’s hands-on describes the base weapon as raining missiles down from above. The source material is clear on the fantasy and quiet on the numbers.
That makes the Whirlwind Battery a zoning tool rather than a precise rifle. Its value is in covering a wide area while you move, which fits a horde game better than a single-target burst. The exact delay, radius and damage cadence are unpublished.
- Universe: Warhammer 40,000.
- Confirmed evolution: Orbital Bombardment.
- Confirmed visual behaviour: missiles rain from above.
- Reported companion: Liquid Green Stuff.
- Demo status: community recipe table only; no dedicated hands-on confirmation.
Orbital Bombardment and Liquid Green Stuff
The evolution name is official. The October community table pairs the Whirlwind Battery with Liquid Green Stuff and lists Orbital Bombardment as the result. The same passive appears in the AoS Brazier Staff line, so it may be a shared support item rather than a dedicated 40K companion.
The standard community trigger is a maxed weapon followed by a boss chest. Treat both the pairing and the trigger as demo-era evidence. The launch build may change which passive is required, especially if the item has multiple uses.
Evidence level: Whirlwind Battery and Orbital Bombardment are official. Liquid Green Stuff as the required passive is community-reported.
How to use it
Place the barrage where the horde is going, not where it already is. The delay is the skill expression: lead the pack, then move so the impact lands behind you. Use buildings and arena edges to compress enemies into the target zone rather than chasing them across open ground.
The weapon is less reliable when the screen is already a full surround. Keep a close-range answer for enemies that get inside the bombardment lane, and do not stand still waiting for the next salvo. Orbital Bombardment may widen the coverage, but the positioning problem remains.
- Lead the target; do not drop the salvo on your own feet.
- Compress enemies against arena geometry before firing.
- Keep a short-range answer for flankers.
- Test the evolved radius and cadence before committing a full build.
Build and users
Auroch has not announced a wielder for the Whirlwind Battery. The weapon index tracks the named entries; the evolution finder holds the reported pairing. For a broader area-damage plan, compare the demo builds.
Pre-launch note. Values and evolution triggers can change before 10 November 2026. Community pairings are labelled and should be verified in the launch build. See the update log for newer information.

Editorial methodOfficial claims, press observations and community reports are kept separate. Where Auroch has not published a value, this guide says so instead of filling the gap.
