Fyrestorm Greataxe
The Fyrestorm Greataxe is a commitment weapon: it swings around the player, changes direction with movement and becomes stronger when you take the fight to the enemy. Evolving it calls Gotrek Gurnisson to your side.

Confirmed behaviour
Auroch’s Zangrom-Thaz feature describes the Fyrestorm Greataxe as a brutal arc that swings around the player, increasing in speed and strength and changing direction as the player moves. It only stops once a certain amount of damage has been dealt. Standing idle reduces its damage.
The official evolution is Zangrom-Thaz. Evolving the axe calls Gotrek Gurnisson to your side; if you are already playing as Gotrek, the evolution does not spawn a clone. The required passive for the evolution is still unpublished.
- Universe: Age of Sigmar.
- Confirmed behaviour: orbiting arc, movement-dependent speed and strength.
- Confirmed evolution: Zangrom-Thaz.
- Confirmed follower: Gotrek Gurnisson.
- Demo status: not part of the October demo recipe table.
Zangrom-Thaz and the missing passive
Zangrom-Thaz is a stronger version of the same idea: it swings constantly and speeds up when you charge into enemies. The announcement is explicit that the evolution calls Gotrek, but it deliberately withholds the required passive. Any exact recipe circulating before launch is a guess unless it cites a developer or a verified hands-on build.
The axe archetype rewards forward pressure. If you are testing the launch evolution, keep a note of which passives you hold and whether the axe’s damage state is changing as you move. That is more useful than copying an unverified pairing from a launch-day list.
Evidence level: axe behaviour and the Zangrom-Thaz evolution are official. The required passive and launch unlock are not announced.
How to use it
Charge through the edge of the pack, not the deepest centre, until the exit is clear. The axe gains value from movement, but a straight line through the middle can still end in a surround. Turn with the swing, then cut back through the followers.
Standing still is a damage loss. Use the rhythm of the arc to time your turns and keep the blade meeting new bodies. The moment the horde starts closing behind you, abandon the forward line and circle out; the axe will keep swinging while you reposition.
- Keep moving to maintain the axe’s speed and strength.
- Charge the edge first, the centre only when the exit is open.
- Do not treat the follower version as a clone of the playable Gotrek.
Build and users
The axe is the centrepiece of the Gotrek dossier and a follower target for other AoS champions. The squad system guide explains why an off-kit weapon can summon an ally. Until the passive is published, treat the evolution as a launch experiment rather than a fixed build.
Pre-launch note. Values and evolution triggers can change before 10 November 2026. Community pairings are labelled and should be verified in the launch build. See the update log for newer information.
